Ed Mackie is part of the team behind manchester Techno institution Colour, and he’s clearly learned a thing or two whilst playing alongside the scene’s great and good at Sankeys. ‘Falt Line’ is the track that stands out, with galloping drums and metallic noise all over the place. Beatmode provide a funkier remix if the time’s not quite right to go hell for leather.

Ed kicks things off with Flat Line a rolling, stripped back tribalistic track. Which in spite of its title the never refuses to flatline, as electronic bleeps fizz and whirr to life.

Beatmode continues on his journey of groundbreaking remixes with his remix of Flat Line,chunky bass high octane percussion and a massive drop halfway through.

Providing a bold contrast to the percussive groove of Flat Line is the dark moody, synth-heavy Monitor, a pulsating, throbbing tune that seeps into your brain. Matt Smallwood’s mix adds his trademark tribal rhythms to a stark arrangement.

Closing track, Wake Up adds a slick vocal sample mimicking the rhythm of a cardiac machine, as the degenerative beats plough on, there’s a sense of urgency and vibrancy to be found.

The Caine N Anians mix forgoes the vocal sample, instead opting for tempo shifts to evoke differing states of transience, taking the listener on a journey of the sub consciousness.

Brooding, dark and clinical, this EP breathes new life into the techno genre, resuscitating and invigorating from start to finish.

ED MACKIE:
It might seem strange that it’s taken this long to turn the spotlight onto Colour’s founding partner and main room resident. This hasn’t been because of any lack of achievement. In regards the “scene”, his influence has been integral to some of the biggest and most remembered parties put on in the last 8 years.

The wait on this has been worth it. Truth is there is little point in a spotlight if you don’t have the opportunity to use it. That’s why the here timing has been so important.

With a string of sets in Sankey’s main room that have placed him next to the greats, and performances that prove he had every right to be there. A rolling set of productions that are being tested on crowds across the globe as we speak, by fellow peers and major players alike. A founding role in everything we’ve done so far and the same position in everything we have planned to come.

Sometimes it’s not about what you’ve done, it’s about what you are going to do.

Ed joins the long list of international cutting edge techno artists to appear on Dr Hoffmans Blind Spot Radio show. The show went out on Preston 103.2 FM and also via a live feed across the net worldwide.
